From Instant Healthcare to Easy Travel — The Modern Comforts That Medieval People Could Only Imagine
I quite often look at my life and day-to-day affairs in surprise, for it’s amazing how easy and comfortable life has become in the 21st century. Sometimes it comes to my mind how life in the Middle Ages utterly differs from what people face: constant worry and live through difficulties, most of which are hard to understand today.
Not long ago, I got the flu. I can remember saying, “This is it; I am going to feel bad.” Just a few clicks on my computer or a trip to my local pharmacy now has me with the medicine and feeling better.
It was then that my thinking got set: just a few centuries back, such a simple ailment could turn fatal due to want of knowledge and resources in medicine. The experience of being sick though was not pleasant did turn out to be a reminder of the luxury of modern medicine so easily accessed.
